Bathe in Light with Nordlux

Bathroom lighting can be tricky to get right. You want so many different things from it. And it can be difficult to work out exactly what you need to create both the functional environment and the desirable space you wish it to be. Luckily, Nordlux has the knowhow and the products to make your bathroom dream come true!

Four Things to Consider When Looking to Bathe Your Bathroom in Light

Safety

More than anything else, when you’re choosing lighting for your bathroom, you need to make sure that it is safe. When you’re working in an area where water is going to be used and the environment is, without question, going to be subject to humidity and steam, you have to be certain that all electrical equipment is safe to use. And there are different lighting categorisations for different zones of your bathroom.

  • Zone 0 – This covers areas that are guaranteed to come into contact with water. Such as within the bathtub or shower basin. For this, you would require IP68 lights.
  • Zone 1 – This is the area around your shower or bathtub, including ceiling lights up to 225cm above the bath and 60cm around the bath area. And for this space, you need to look for IP65 categorised light fittings.
  • Zone 2 – Finally, you have the rest of the bathroom area. For which you need to look for at least IP44 categorised lighting, although most people stick with IP65-rated lights

Check our product specifications to understand which zone the product can be used in.

Utility

Once you’ve worked out the safety requirements of your bathroom, you’ve also got to factor in the different ways you use the space. Because practicality comes close after safety. You need that bright, natural light for everyday tasks, such as shaving and applying makeup, and seeing what you’re doing in the shower. Which is where downlights, like the Nordlux Soller series, come in. Then you need wall lights like the Sjaver or the Marlee to bring your mirror into perfect focus.

But as well as that bright, utilitarian light, you need something softer, that won’t blind the eyes or further interrupt sleep when nature calls in the early hours. And that would be where dimmable lights like the Theros, with their clever night light mode, really come into their own. Providing pure, bright light when you need it. And the softest, gentle glow when you don’t.

Relaxation

But as well as utility, a really good bathroom is also a place to escape the worries of the world and relax. And nothing quite takes the luxury out of a bath like a glaring overhead light. So, Nordlux have created a number of solutions to help you through. You’ve got the overhead dimmable lights, like the Theros. Then there are the smaller, dimmable lights like the Hester and Helva. Wall-mounted and casting three degrees of glow, you can change your ambience depending on your mood and the moment.

Style

Only you can decide on the right style for your home. But as well as technical innovation, Nordlux has a design trick or two up its sleeve. There’s a whole range of traditional rounded overhead lighting in the series. And an equal number of more exciting and aesthetically pleasing wall lights. But then you get lights like the square Oja series, which make you wonder why you’ve never thought of getting square lights before. It’s a simple change, that makes a radical difference.

When you’re busy designing a bathroom, lighting can seem like such a small thing. But it makes a massive difference to the way that you use your bathroom. And the enjoyment it gives you. So, take time when making your bathroom lighting choices. And check out what Nordlux has to offer before you make up your mind.
