Crystal and Light: A Match Made in Décor Heaven

Crystal has always had a place in lighting. Beautifully refracting the light source, it lends a warmth and elegance to any interior. But for years, crystal lights were consigned to the large and stately home. Considered too imposing and ostentatious for the average house or flat. In 2023 however, crystal is back in a very big way. And there are styles to suit all types of room, decorative styles, and budgets.

Five Crystal Lighting Styles for 2023

Traditional crystal chandelier

Crystal Chandelier

The crystal chandelier needs no introduction. It’s iconic in its style and its grace. Dripping in crystals, it is archetypal of period of elegance. And there are so many crystal alternatives available – from glass to acrylic – that you can find them at almost any price point. But although they can be breath-takingly beautiful when illuminated, not all rooms can accommodate a chandelier. They need space not only to be admired, but to be practical. And they don’t fit in with every decorating scheme. So, as with all lighting styles, it pays to choose wisely.

Crystal pendant lights

Crystal Pendant Light

If you don’t want a chandelier, crystal pendant lights – like the Elstead Crystal Skye collection – make a fabulous alternative. Crafted from triangular crystal prisms set in chrome, these lights combine the refinement of the traditional chandelier with the contemporary minimalist aesthetic. IP44 rated, they can even be used to brighten up a bathroom, bringing glitz and glamour without the faff and froth of conventional styling.

Crystal lights for smaller spaces

The established draping design of crystal lights has meant that they are usually reserved for high ceilings. But with flush fittings now available, crystal lights have become more versatile. The Crystal Flush is every bit as glamorous as its traditional predecessors.  But with a drop of just 22cm, almost any room can accommodate it.

Contemporary crystal styling

In the last year or so, there has been a move towards lighting as art. And crystals truly lend themselves to statement-making. The Quintesse Vida, for example, is as dramatic as it is impressive. With crystal accents bursting from bronzed branches, there’s something pleasingly organic and mildly aggressive about the aesthetic. Or if minimal is more your thing, you can move away from crystal droplets and opt for the crystal beading of the Jewelled LED Swirl. They both make statements, but in very different ways.

Crystal table lights

When you think of crystal lighting, most thoughts turn to the ceiling. But there are some beautiful crystal table lamps available too. The Crystal and Chrome Touch Lamp is one of our favourites. Both pretty and practical, it casts and incredible pattern when illuminated, while bringing a touch of elegance and opulence to the bedside or sitting room.

Crystal lighting is beautiful, versatile, and stylish. It can be used to create a bold and bright visual, or a soft and ethereal aesthetic. There are crystal lighting styles to suit almost every home, even if you’re working on a budget. So, if you’re looking for a way to rejuvenate your lighting, why not give crystal a go?
