Glamourous Bedroom Lighting — Marie Therese and Crystal

There are no two ways about it. British winters are grim.

Who doesn’t struggle to get beyond the bedroom when the cold, dark days seem endless?

At this time of year, most of us are dreaming of exotic, far-off places and the promise of the warm summer sun to come (Yes, that may turn out to be a one-day event, but you can bet we’ll be ready — sun cream and disposable barbecues in tow.)

In the meantime however, there’s a consolation. The excuse to stay indoors, bundled up and cosy, with long weekend lie-ins and box-set marathons in the comforting hibernation space of the bedroom. So why not make that space a haven of luxury and escapism?

Here at First Choice Lighting, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourite glamourous bedroom lighting ideas, to help you create your own perfect sanctuary.

1.The Crystal Chandelier

Nothing adds glamour quite like the chandelier.

Nobility’s choice of statement lighting since the 15th century, chandeliers are of course, no longer reserved for the palace or stately-home dining room.

Today, crystal chandeliers are designed to suit period and modern spaces alike, in varying sizes, colours and materials.

In bedrooms with high ceilings, replacing a pendant light with a beautiful, crystal chandelier can bring a space to life, with its refracting light and captivating elegance throughout both daylight and evening hours.

This stunning chrome and crystal 3 light chandelier is part of a limited range of illustrious original BHS designs. With chrome trim, it has a distinctly modern feel, yet its delicate crystal droplets evoke the romance of a bygone era.

So go on, lounge back, eat cake and pretend you live in Versailles. Versailles with Netflix of course. And no guillotines.

2. The Glamourous Table Lamp

If a chandelier doesn’t work with your décor scheme or the practical dimensions of your room, there are easier, and more subtle, ways to add a touch of glamour.

Table lamps are a simple, but highly-effective way to bring style to the bedroom.

Their practicality as bedside saviours — creating sleepy time ambience, making our journey from bright light to pitch dark progressive, stopping us from fumbling across rooms in the dark — means we often take for granted the humble table lamp’s ability to transform an aesthetic.

Functional needn’t be exclusive from dazzling.

Why not place one of these eye-catching, sparkling crystal globe lamps on each side of the bed for a touch of modern luxury and elegance?

Featuring a touch base and dimmer switch to set the mood, this gorgeous but space-saving lamp creates pretty, surface light patterns when lit up.

3.The Marie Therese

This popular style of chandelier was created and named in honour of the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa in 1743.

Typically, the Marie Therese chandelier boasts curving lyre-shaped arms, intricate beading and crystal droplets, teamed with beautiful glass or crystal rosettes.

A style which once suggested opulence, a contemporary Marie Therese sized for the bedroom still makes a stunning statement — but won’t break the bank.

Choose this 3-light pendant Marie Therese for example, made with sparkling acrylic crystals and beading, as a breathtaking, whimsical centrepiece, for less than £40. Also available as a 5-light chandelier, the piece can be teamed with matching Marie Therese twin wall lights to complete the look.

For a more modern, kitsch feel, opt for the set or chandelier on its own in white gloss acrylic, or gothic, black acrylic and chrome.

4.The Crystal Pendant Light

Pendant lights are a wonderful way to create a focal point within the bedroom.

With a sparkling crystal pendant, this is a sure fire way to add glamour.

Try one pendant light in the centre of the room, such as this 3-tiered shade, with alternating clear and smoked-acrylic crystal droplets.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, hang two or three pendant lights together, in a straight line or at alternating angles to create layers of visual interest. This can work particularly well in open spaces or in rooms with quirky, angled ceilings.

This pair of easy-to-fit pendant shades feature cascading, crystal jewels which catch the light. Hang them in a bedroom corner, at varying angles to create a tone of warmth, glamour and mesmerising radiance.
